Happy Feast Day!
On October 4, we not only celebrated the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, but we also celebrated the Feast Day of our beloved St. Joseph’s Home!
In honor of St. Francis the Patron Saint of animals, Fr. Tom had a pet blessing; appropriately in front of the statue of St. Francis on the southwest side of our grounds. The weather cooperated with a perfect, late season summerlike 80° day! Our birds, dogs, cats and even a hermit crab gathered around Father for a blessing.
Everyone (all the humans, anyway) was invited to Mass following the blessing. We were happy to have our dear Franciscans – Br. Tom Hercegovics, O.F.M. Conv. (Activity Assistant), Br. Martin Schmitz, O.F.M. Conv. (Resident) and three Franciscan Postulants who volunteer each Wednesday, with us.
The employees were invited to join the Residents for midday dinner. It was so nice to share a meal with our friends and be able to visit with them.
St. Francis is also known as the Patron Saint of the Environment. A stellar cast and crew performed a ‘Recycling Ballet’ at 2:30, reminding us the correct ways to dispose of our trash.
Taking advantage of the beautiful day, we all enjoyed a trip to the ice cream truck parked outside of our front door. It’s our opinion that ice cream is perfect any day, but it was especially nice to be outside and enjoy our choice of an ice cream treat with our friends!
Happy Feast Day!
