President Warren Harding dedicated the tomb of the unknow soldier at Arlington Cemetery. W. Virginia become the first state to enact a sales tax. Chanel No.5 was created by Coco Chanel. Eight members of the Chicago White Sox were accused of intentionally losing the 1919 World Series. ‘Down by the O-Hi-O’ by Al Joson, was the popular song. ‘The Kid’ a silent film starring Charli Chaplin was playing in theaters. And, Mary Ann Vacek was born!
Mary Ann has seen a lot of change over the past 102 years. She still is concerned about current events and the state of our government. She was one of our first Residents to line up for the bus ride to the polling place to vote in the 2022 elections. She has performed in many of our musicals and bingo is one of her favorite games!
On October 3, we celebrated Mary Ann with music and song! In honor of Mary Ann’s birthday, her family donated a Weeping Cherry Tree. We gathered together as Fr. Tom blessed Mary Ann, her family and the new tree. Sr. Paul accompanied Mary Ann’s Family members as they sprinkled holy water on the newly planted tree.
Happy birthday Mary Ann, may you have many more – with the Little Sisters of the Poor!
