Hanging Out with the Saints
It is our tradition to have an ‘All Saints’ prayer vigil on Halloween night. Tables filled with relics, statues and pictures of saints are lined up in the front of the church. We listen to reflections on the lives of the newest saints. There is exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and scripture readings. After the vigil we have an opportunity to venerate the relics, meditate and visit all the saints on display.
All Saints day is also very special at our Home. Not only do we have an opportunity to honor all of our Saints in heaven, but thanks to Our Lady Queen of Peace Home Schooling Group, we have an opportunity to enjoy the ‘Saints – in – Training’ here on earth.
The Home Schooling Group children come dressed as their favorite saint and join us for Mass. They visit with us in the dining room during our noon meal and tell us all about their Saints. It warms our hearts to see these future saints and listen to them speak so passionately about their favorite saint.
Watching these ‘saintly’ children, the words of St. Jeanne Jugan come to mind. “Little, very little, be very little before God.” Good advice for all of us who are striving to become saints, too.
