St. Joseph’s Home for the Holidays
Mother Nature decided to put us in the Christmas mood a little early, when five inches of snow fell on Halloween. By the time our St. Joseph’s Home for the Holidays Wine Tasting was held on November 7, everyone was ready to think about the holidays.
The largest crowd yet filled the Christmas Tasting Room (our beautifully decorated auditorium). Our friend Larry Kaplan from the Wine Cellar in Palatine brought 28 different varieties of wine for us to sample and/or purchase. Many wine connoisseurs were on hand to answer questions and help everyone choose that ‘special wine’ to accompany any holiday menu.
A large buffet of delicious appetizers, many donated from local restaurants, and desserts accompanied the wide range of wines. Mother Margaret even made her special Ham and Bean Soup, a perfect dish to warm up our guests as they came in form the snow and cold.
At the end of the evening, our smiling guests departed filled with good cheer, good food, and the assurance that their holiday wine supply was complete.
