
Sr. Vincent (Mary Catherine) O’Neil

Sr. Vincent (Mary Catherine) O’Neill was born on November 24, 1922 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Patrick O’Neil and Catherine (nee: Madden). She passed away on December 23, 2022 at the age of 100. She joined the Congregation of the Little Sisters of the Poor at a young age and professed temporary vows on December 12, 1944 in Queens Village, New York and perpetual vows on December 8, 1950. During her religious life of 78 years, she served the elderly poor with devotedness. 47 of those years of service were spent in the Archdiocese of Chicago, serving at various times between St. Mary’s Home in Chicago and St. Joseph’s Home in Palatine.
Sr. Vincent is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, William O’Neill, Thomas O’Neil, John O’Neill; and her sisters, Emily O’Neill and Cassie Mitchell.
She is survived by her nieces, Denise Spicer, Patricia Fleetwood, Catherine Struder, and Mary Patricia Rogers; nephews, Shawn O’Neill and John Mitchell, along with many great nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial took place on December 29, 2022, in the chapel at St. Joseph’s Home in Palatine. Internment at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery, Palatine.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly, Little Sisters of the Poor, 80 W. Northwest Highway, Palatine, IL 60067.
