Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
On Friday, March 25, the Feast of the Annunciation, we united with Pope Francis, Bishops, and faithful throughout the World in praying the Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Residents, Little Sisters and staff gathered in our Chapel to pray the rosary for peace and to recite the Act of Consecration to the Heart of Mary. A Mass was then offered for peace in Russian and the Ukraine.
In Rome, the Holy Father prayed the Act of Consecration at St. Peter’s Basilica in front of the statue of Our Lady of Fatima. It was in Fatima, Portugal in 1917 that Our Lady appeared and asked that Russia be consecrated to Her Immaculate Heart. Pope Francis, responding to a plea from Ukraine’s Catholic bishops who asked that he consecrate Ukraine and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, initiated this unprecedented worldwide prayer.
In our Chapel, a beautiful statue of Our Lady of Fatima was surrounded by flowers on the side of the altar. We prayed the Act of Consecration, asking for Mary’s intercession; “may God’s mercy be poured out on the earth and the gentle rhythm of peace return to mark our days…May you, our ‘living fountain of hope”, water the dryness of our hearts…lead us now on the paths of peace.”
