A Swing and a Prayer
Before we even start planning our golf outing, we put St. Joseph in charge of the weather. And, he has never let us down! On Monday, September 10 he provided us with a picture perfect 72° sunny day for our 13th Annual Swing and a Prayer Golf Outing.
One hundred golfers joined us at the beautiful Wynstone Golf Club in North Barrington. After a delicious hot off the grill lunch, our guests tried to “Putt Against a Sister”. It was harder than many thought, as our Sisters had been practicing and were worthy opponents.
Around 1:30 p.m. a busload of Residents arrived. They sat on the patio enjoying refreshments and cheering on the golfers.
As the golfers made their way around the course, some Little Sisters and Residents rode around the course in golf carts greeting and encouraging the golfers.
During cocktail hour Mother Margaret, once again this year, flew high above the course in a helicopter to drop the numbered golf balls over hole #10. Congratulations to Jojo Yap, whose ball was closest to hole and won the 50/50.
A four station dinner was served in the club house dining room. Our generous guests responded to a Fund-a-Need appeal for new exterior doors. We raised enough to replace 15 of the 16 doors!
Congratulations to our winning foursome – Guy Youman, Tim Byers, Tom Sweetwood, and Steve Sawtell with a score of 49. Along with their names being engraved on the McDonald Cup Trophy, they each received a loaf of Sr. Christine’s coveted banana bread!
Many thanks to all who supported this fundraiser!
