“When Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, ’tis like the morn in Spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter
You can hear the angels sing.
When Irish hearts are happy,
All the world seems bright and gay.
And when Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, they steal your heart away.”
Our Irish eyes were smiling and Irish laughter filled the auditorium as we celebrated one of our favorite feast days – St. Patrick’s Day! A sea of green filled the room as we sang along to our favorite Irish songs, thanks to pianist Bob Opal.
Also, many thanks are due to the Women’s Club of Palatine, who and liven up the festivities and helped serve Green River Soda and St. Patrick Day cookies. Larry the Leprechaun showed up with a basket of goodies for all to enjoy. Larry also stayed around to help toss the coin for a few games of “Heads and Tails”.
Looking around we could see that we come from many varied heritages. But, on St. Patrick’s Day we are all Irish at heart.
