Welcome Mother Mercy!
It is our pleasure to welcome our new Superior, Mother Mercy Stella. With our family spirit in high gear we planned a special surprise. To highlight our internationality, and hers, an Olympic Parade of Nations greeted her as she arrived. In addition to our international backgrounds, we are all athletes in some way. Whether it is going to P.T., running around our 186,000 square foot building as we perform our daily tasks, or walking around our 16-acre property, we certainly get in our steps! We also exercise our fingers when we change the remote on our TVs and do arm lifts when talking on the phone to our families and friends. Not only are we “good sports”, we come from many different heritages.
Veering a bit from Olympic tradition, in honor of Mother Mercy’s native country, India had the honor to lead our parade. The nation of Greece, that traditionally has the honor of leading the parade, was our second country. The other nations represented included England, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lebanon, Mexico, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Philippines, Poland, Samoa and finally the United States of America!
A Mass of Thanksgiving was held in honor of Mother Mercy. Afterwards she went to each dining room, and greeted the Residents and staff, presenting each of them with a gift. A troupe of Olympic Greek dancers entertain us with a rousing rendition of the Sirtaki – a traditional Greek folk dance.
We pray that Mother Mercy will immediately feel at home and are confident that she will be touched by the love, kindness and generosity that is the hallmark of our Home.
Welcome Mother Mercy!
