Social isolation is hard on anyone at any age, but can be devastating to an elderly person. In the midst of this coronavirus outbreak we are thinking outside the box to make sure social suffering isn’t happening here. Just because we are unable to allow any visitors or volunteers into our Home at this time, that doesn’t mean our Residents have to miss out on face-to-face interaction with their loved ones. Our new favorite way to keep in contact during social distancing is Skype video chatting via our portable computers!
One of our Residents, Terry, chatted with her daughter about the Eucharistic Procession we had last week for St. Joseph’s Feast Day. Our chaplain, Fr. Damien walked around the entire home and blessed any Resident or staff who wished to participate as we said the rosary together over the loud speaker.
Penny was able to Skype with her son and her granddaughter from their phone while they were out grocery shopping, all from the comfort of her bed.
It’s amazing what we can we can provide for our Residents during these times with the help of technology!
