The Run for the Roses
We may not have been at Churchill Downs in Louisville, but we had just as much fun as we watched the 149th running of the Kentucky Derby.
The Kentucky Derby is the longest running major sporting event in US history; running continually since 1875 continuing through World Wars and pandemics.
Tradition has it for Derby guests to dress up in their brightest colors and boldest hats. In keeping with this custom, our ladies were right in Derby fashion with their beautiful hats.
What is a celebration without food and drinks? If there is one drink that has been a huge part of history and traditions, it’s the mint julep. This traditional cocktail has been the official beverage of the Kentucky Derby for over a century.
Sipping our mint juleps, we cheered loudly for our local favorite, Two Phil’s (owned by our good friend Vinnie Foglia). Alas, Two Phil’s couldn’t keep his early lead as Mage ended up winning. We still couldn’t be prouder of Two Phil’s, who we’re sure will go on to win many more.
Next stop in the Triple Crown is the Preakness Stakes, when once again we’ll be lifting our glasses and cheering for a victory for Two Phil’s.
