The Flight of our Butterfly
This beautiful Monarch butterfly emerged from its cocoon on the feast day of St. Jeanne Jugan. We had captured a caterpillar a couple of weeks or so before and kept it in the convent. When it was ready to emerge, we took it outside by the statue of St. Jeanne Jugan and released him from his jar. He wasn’t sure what to do at first but he finally took off and flew away.
St. Jeanne Jugan loved nature and found the presence of God all around her. She would often pray the rosary as she wandered through the meadows of France. How appropriate that our little butterfly took it’s first flight under the watchful eyes of our dear Mother Foundress on her feast day.
