St. Joseph’s Feast Day
The feast of St. Joseph on March 19 is a joyful celebration in the Church and also for us. Not only is St. Joseph the patron of the universal Church, but since the beginning of St. Jeanne Jugan’s ministry to the elderly poor, he has been seen as the protector of our congregation and the saint that provides for all the needs of our Homes. From the opening of St. Joseph’s Home, 53 years ago, St. Joseph has provided for our many needs through compassionate, caring people like you!
Saint Jeanne Jugan was deeply devoted to St. Joseph to take care of her needs. If you think about it, their lives were quite similarly ‘hidden’ while watching over God’s most precious gifts. St. Joseph was entrusted to care for God’s beloved Son and St. Jeanne Jugan was entrusted to care for God’s beloved elderly.
St. Joseph’s Day began with a special Mass devoted to our great patron. Our dear friend Fr. William De Salvo – Pastor of St. Isaac Jogues Parish in Hinsdale, along with Fr. Damian Graziano – our Chaplain, and Fr. Father Michal Twaruzek- Parochial Vicar at St. Isaac Jogues Parish celebrated Mass.
Our dietary staff prepared a delicious meal that was served after Mass. A sea of red (a traditional color celebrating St. Joseph) could be seen on the tables in the dining room and on the clothing of almost everyone!
Fr. Michal, a native of Poland, enjoyed visiting and speaking his native language to many of our Residents and staff of Polish decent.
To the delight of everyone, a traditional St. Joseph Table (which was actually three banquet size tables) filled with endless assortments of sweets was laid out in the center of the room!
St. Joseph, Pillar of Families, Pray for Us.
