Over 300 people joined us on Sunday, April 23 at our 2017 Amazing Grace Gala at the Stonegate Banquet Centre in Hoffman Estates, IL. The tables were decorated with red and gold tablecloths with beautiful arrangements of roses and hydrangeas in the center. Our guests enjoyed cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres, as they browsed through the array of delightful Silent Auction baskets and opportunities for several raffles, which included a trip to Naples, FL, and sweepstakes tickets with a grand prize of $5,000.
A delicious dinner of chicken with brie sauce and jumbo prawns was enjoyed by all. We were honored to have Mr. William Mumma, President and CEO of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty as our special guest speaker. In introducing Mr. Mumma, Mother Provincial Maria Christine explained, “Our mission of quietly and humbly serving the elderly did not outwardly prepare us for what the Lord was going to be asking of us with this HHS Mandate, but He certainly sent us the help that we needed to go forward… Many people have asked how we could afford the Becket Fund, but they have never accepted one penny from the Little Sisters!”
Mr. Mumma gave a very interesting and thought-provoking talk about the struggle for Religious Liberty. “As we know, for the last five years the Little Sisters of the Poor have been defended by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty all the way to the Supreme Court. These brave nuns, as Mother pointed out, have now become the emblem of Religious Liberty. Everyone in this room knows that is providential.” You can view his whole talk below.
In addition to our outstanding speaker, we owe a debt of gratitude to our many friends, those who helped underwrite our event, and those who attended and gave their generous financial support. Through your help we raised enough money to purchase three new Vital Sign Medical Devices.
You are truly our Amazing Grace! May God bless you for your kindness. In prayerful gratitude, our 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 28 will be offered for your special intentions.
