The spirit of summer is spreading. Our steps are getting a little lighter and our toes are tapping. What should we do with all of that energy? Well, how about a Variety Show?
And, that’s exactly what we did on Tuesday, July 10. When we brought together our Palatine Home with the Chicago Home – ‘Palacago’ was born. The auditorium was filled with a sea of white T-shirts with the ‘Palacago’ logo. While we waited for the performance, we enjoyed scrumptious appetizers and drinks, including Mother Margaret Charles’ delicious coconut concoction known as ‘Bahama Mamas’.
From “Cabaret” to Synchronized Swimming, Residents, Little Sisters, staff and volunteers from both Homes entertained us. Even our good friend, Fr. Tim Fairman, joined in with a Broadway worthy rendition of “Dream the Impossible Dream”.
Life-long Cubs fan Sr. Ann Marguerite and the Little Sisters from Chicago gave us a slam-bang finish as they led us in the (Cubs) National Anthem – “Go Cubs Go”.
After a finger licking dinner of fried chicken, potato salad, baked beans and corn on the cob, we reluctantly said good night.
Word spread fast of the success (and fun) of our show. Many perspective performers have been inquiring, volunteering and begging to be a part of the next show. Stay tuned for our sequel ‘Palacago 2’.
