Meet Franciscan Postulant Alex Gould
Alex grew up in Marmaduke, Arkansas, as you would guess once you hear Alex’s noticeable “accent”. Being from Arkansas, Alex never heard of the Catholic Church until he moved to Missouri. Alex became Catholic at the Easter Vigil in 2013. Alex received his bachelor’s degree in Family Studies. For two years he was a crisis worker for the State of Missouri. This was the last effort the state gave to parents before they would have to take their children away. Alex was also a Youth Minister. He led retreats, started a High School Guy Night, and was briefly involved in Campus Ministry.
Alex was attracted to the Conventual Franciscan because he noticed how joyful they are! He saw how they do everything – from soup kitchen to therapist, to priest, and missionary work – with sincere and deep happiness and joy. Alex also loves the lifestyle about giving their entire life back to God. Alex hopes as a Franciscan is to be a Youth Minister who is also a therapist and a priest. “I would love to work with young adults who aren’t ‘church goers’ and bring them back to the Church.”
Alex and the other Postulants come every Wednesday to volunteer. We are inspired by their spirituality, invigorated by their energy and so very grateful for their help, and their friendship!
