Groucho Marx certainly knew what he was talking about when he said “I shall drink no wine before it’s time… OK, it’s time!” And, it was time on November 9 at the 7th Annual St. Joseph’s Home for the Holidays Wine Tasting. It was so good to see familiar faces and many new ones, as over 100 guests came to sample 28 varieties of wines and feast on a buffet of appetizers and desserts.
Some of our local restaurants and distributors supported us by donating their delicious appetizers, including Big Chef, ChiTown Fish and Seafood, Heng Wing, Gianni’s Cafe, Pizza Bella, and Rose Packing Co. Mother Margaret Charles also prepared a huge pot of her delicious Ham and Bean Soup for our guests to sample. Not surprisingly, her Bean Soup Mix sold out quickly.
Not only did we have an opportunity to sample the wines, but we learned of each wine’s bouquet, varietal, vintage, blend and region and much more information from the knowledgeable representatives. Our many thanks to Larry Kaplan at The Wine Cellar, 361 West Northwest Highway in Palatine who sponsored this event, Jerry Kohn, who helped to organize it and to Opolo Wines, Maverick Wine Company, JDI Wines and Pure Wine company who brought their wines and expertise for us to sample.
With a portion of the wine sales proceeds going to the Little Sisters, many of our friends used this opportunity to purchase wine for the holidays. We lift our glasses to you and toast your generosity in thanksgiving:
“May the dreams you hold dearest, Be those which come true,
And The kindness you spread, Keep returning to you.”
….And, offer our grateful prayers for you and your families.
I shall drink no wine before it’s time!
