By Marie Garro, Hospitality Intern
Given the nice weather we’ve been having, Sister Mary Matthew threw a block party of sorts for our Residents on the first floor. As they headed out to the patio, a display of luau decorations and refreshments awaited them.
It was June 23 and overcast that whole morning, but the sun came out just as the party started that afternoon. The two other Hospitality Interns and I helped Sr. Mary Matthew with decorating and passed out leis and the Pina Coladas Mother so kindly prepared for the party.
The kitchen treated us with deserts and fruit, and Katelyn, one of the interns, made pineapple upside down cake. The Sisters joined us right as the Hawaiian pizza was brought out.
The party involved a game of charades and Hawaiian music. One of our Residents, Dolores, had learned how to hula from her time in Hawaii and got up to show us her moves not once but twice.
We all enjoyed good food and good laughs, especially because I had no part in the preparation of the food. Stay tuned for other parties to come!
