Happy Feast of St. Joseph
The Feast of St. Joseph has always been a special day for us as he has long been a friend of the Little Sisters and in particular our Home, of which he is our patron and protector. This year, it was extra special as Pope Francis has declared this liturgical year – the Year of St. Joseph!
Jeanne Jugan had a great devotion to St. Joseph and that devotion continues today with every Little Sister and Resident. Every Little Sister memorizes this prayer to St. Joseph.
“Hail Joseph, son of David, most chaste spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, good foster father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
St. Joseph, pray for us who are your children. Pray for this little family whom you have deigned to take under your special care and powerful protection. Amen.”
We see miracles when we ask for St. Joseph’s help, and even if we don’t. A couple weeks ago, one of our friends contacted us to ask if there was anything that he could do for us. Mother Margaret suggested that a beef dinner for St. Joseph’s Feast Day would be a very special treat. Because of the expense, we don’t have beef very often. Our friend resoundingly agreed to not only supply the beef, but all the fixings as well.
We were happy to welcome another dear friend, Bishop Gerald Kicanas who celebrated Mass, along with our chaplain Fr. Damian Graziano, and Fr. Tom Rzepiela. Bishop spoke of the wonderful mostly hidden works that Mother Maria Christine and Mother Margaret Charles have done as Little Sisters. He invited us to join him and raise our hands in a blessing for both of them.
After Mass, we enjoyed a delicious roast beef with a mushroom sauce, double baked potatoes, green beans and salad, along with a traditional St. Joseph’s Sweet Table that was set up in each of our dining rooms.
It was a joyous day, celebrating a joyous saint!
