God Bless Our Grandparents
And those how are like grandparents to us!
We know what precious gifts that our dear elderly are to the world. We are honored to experience each day, their wisdom, love and deep faith. It was such a joy for us when Pope Francis instituted the fourth Sunday of July as World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. As Little Sisters, we celebrate our elderly every day, but when the Holy Father proclaimed, “The whole Church is close to you – to us – and cares about you, loves you and does not want to leave you alone!” We thankfully praised God with a resounding AMEN!
In celebration of our grandparents, each staff member was paired with one or two Residents for the day. The Staff made cards and posters, brought treats and presents to each Resident. In the afternoon, we had an Ice Cream Social. Even though the weather didn’t cooperate for an outside event, the ice cream tasted just as good in our auditorium.
Br. Tom played our favorite songs on the keyboard while Sr. Pauline and Sr. Amy Kristine led us in song. It was such an enjoyable summer afternoon with delicious root beer floats and ice cream sundaes. We ate, sang and danced and even tested our skills at ring toss and bag toss.
