As Little Sisters, we welcome the needy elderly regardless of race, gender or religion. Our philosophy is that all life should be reverenced. Together with our Residents, we have worked on projects to help others in need outside of our Home. We have knitted covers for the Water with Blessing Program, made rosaries for the missions, crocheted blankets for the pregnancy centers and much more.
Recently, we have begun to partner with various local ministries for the needy. On May 11, some Residents joined Cindy DeLuca, the Volunteer Coordinator, to help with the Summer Supper or Community Meal hosted by St. Theresa Parish in Palatine. That afternoon we made 15 pounds of mashed potatoes! Later, we helped create a “Fining Dining” space in St. Theresa’s Dolan Center with decorations that we brought from our Home.
During the evening, we helped check in the guests and serve them. We also provided boutonnieres for the guests to wear, which made them feel special. In order that the guests feel truly welcomed, after they are served, the volunteers join the guests and eat with them at their tables. It was a wonderful evening! We are looking forward to the next Community Meal, and other opportunities to volunteer in the near future.
