Welcome Sr. Mary Matthew of the Cross

  • September 10, 2015

We are so fortunate to have newly professed Sister Mary Matthew of the Cross with us. Sister made her first profession on July 18, 2015 at St. Ann’s Novitiate in Queens Village, NY.

Sr. Mary Matthew originally comes from Pensacola, FL. She is the second oldest of four and is the only girl. She claims to be a terrific baby sitter.

As a young adult, she visited many parishes while searching for a home parish. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, she went for a visit to St. Anne’s in Pensacola, which was the parish in which she was baptized. By coincidence, the then pastor of St. Anne’s turned out to be the nephew of the priest that had baptized her.  Sister knew in her heart this was to be her home and became a parishioner. She became involved in St. Anne’s Parish.  While helping one of the parish ladies with a Parish program, Sister visited the Little Sisters of the Poor at Sacred Heart Home in Mobile, AL.  Touched by the Residents and work of the Little Sisters, she began spending more and more time at the Home. Eventually she became a CNA and worked there.

Sr. Mary Matthew felt a calling to religious life. She planned a visit to several religious orders. Her first stop was the Little Sisters of the Poor Queen of Peace Residence in Queens, NY. At that point she felt so at home that she decided the Little Sisters of the Poor was her vocation. She entered as a postulant that very same year.

Welcome Sr. Mary Matthew of the Cross! We are so happy to have you with us.
