Have you heard of the new craze? It’s drumming, or drum circles. In order to keep up with the latest, we dusted off our drum collection and decided to do some drumming ourselves. Our humble beginning started with Resident Bob Yarbourgh who loves rock music. We gave him a CD of the Eagles and Queen
music, gave him a drum and sticks and he went to town jamming! His 102-year- old mother-in-law, Eva, joined him the first day playing the tambourine and smiling ear-to-ear. Volunteers, activity staff, and CNA’s have joined him, either playing maracas, tambourine, or just dancing around.
A few weeks later we tried drumming with other Residents in a group. Residents first drummed to the beat to their name. Then it was time to jump right in and play some familiar tunes. It was great how all the Residents were able to keep the beat together! Sister Amy, the Activity Staff, and volunteers had just as much fun joining in playing the drums. There is something about a drum that we all enjoy, whether it was tapping our pencils to the beat, or hitting a drum. The Activity Staff and Sister Amy are looking forward to the next session!
