Wynstone Golf Course
September 21, 2015
What a beautiful day we had for our 10th Annual Swing and A Prayer Golf Outing. Thank you St. Joseph!!
The Wynstone Golf Course in North Barrington was the perfect setting for this year’s event. The golfers began their day with registration and then a fabulous lunch. The smell of the hamburgers, brats and grilled chicken were mouthwatering. Neck massages were also offered to loosen the golfers up before teeing off. At 12 noon, the golfers were off!!!
Those of us non-golfers drove carts through the course to cheer on the golfers and enjoy the fabulous scenery. Flat Francis was with us every step of the way.
Several of the Residents arrived at around 1:30pm and relaxed in the comfortable chairs and sofas in the outdoor dining area and enjoyed the beautiful view of the course. Some practiced their putting skills and Sr. Mary Matthew and Sr. Paschal provided entertainment by balancing putters on their fingers. What a relaxing afternoon.
Cocktail hour was situated on the beautiful patio overlooking the course. The golfers started to trickle in around 5pm. Raffle tickets were deposited into the boxes. The hors d’ oeuvres were passed (and were quite tasty) which wet our appetites for the main course. At approximately 6pm we all went upstairs for the main meal.
Avid ‘Swing and a Prayer’ golfer, Fr. Tom Rzepiela (from St. Thomas of Villanova in Palatine) led us in grace. Then, Mother began the program by thanking everyone for participating and supporting the Little Sisters of the Poor and their mission. A Fund a Need appeal for our general operating expenses was met with a generous and enthusiastic response from our guests.
The raffle prize winners were announced and then the live auction began. There was much excitement in the air as our auctioneer, Matt Hart, started the bidding for Chicago Bears tickets, Blackhawk tickets and tickets to have your picture taken with the Stanley Cup!
The winners of the outing were finally announced. Each winner received a loaf of the Little Sisters famous banana bread. Congratulations to our winners: Chris Carney, David Hammond, Chip Stempeck and Kevin Weiss (and David Brochu, who graciously accepted the banana bread on Chris Carney’s behalf). Your names will be engraved on the McDonald Cup.
This year’s Golf Outing was a great success thanks to all our benefactors and donors!! Can’t wait till next year!!
