Mickey and Minnie Make Surprise Visit

  • March 6, 2015

This is a story about a baby who lives in Cincinnati bringing joy to our Residents without even knowing it. Once upon a time there was a baby girl born on March 10th. Her parents named her Gracelyn because she was a miracle. Cindy DeLuca, our Activity Director has the honor of being her Godmother. Almost a year later after her birth, Cindy and her assistant Holly brainstormed what Cindy could do to make her first birthday special. The light bulb turned on, and within a minute Holly pulled down the Mickey and Minnie costumes. “Mickey and Minnie” then went to the piano, played and sang Happy Birthday to Gracelyn and videoed it.  That was just the beginning… Mickey and Minnie (Holly and Cindy) then decided to make the rounds and visit the Second Floor Residents and staff. On the way up, several employees took selfies with Mickey and Minnie for their children. Once they got to the Second Floor, our Residents held wonderful conversations with Mickey and Minnie. One Resident was going through her pictures and shared them with Mickey and Minnie. Another Resident shared all her activities of the day including how long she rode the bike in therapy! Resident Jack Wolfe told Mickey and Minnie that it was a good thing he wasn’t hungry… another Resident who loves cats made Mickey and Minnie a little nervous, but the Resident assured them they were not real cats. Finally, Mickey and Minnie visited the activity “Move to the Music” and danced a few numbers for the Residents. All in all, Minnie said, “We made at least thirty Residents and employees happy.”  Thank you, Godchild Gracelyn from Cincinnati, who in your own way put smiles on Residents faces one cold March Thursday afternoon in Palatine, Illinois!
