Let Every Life Shine

  • January 17, 2015

On Saturday, January 17, The Little Sisters and several staff members joined a crowd of nearly 1,000 for the “March for Life” in Palatine. As a sign of our unity, upon arriving at a gathering at nearby St. Theresa’s Church, we received red scarves stamped with the footprint of a 20 week old preborn child.  After lifting our voices in song and prayer for the sanctity of life, we were moved by three compelling testimonies.  Bishop George Rassas, Episcopal Vicar of Vicariate I, of the Archdiocese of Chicago, encouraged us to ‘see through the eyes of Jesus’, remaining strong and standing up for what is right, before giving us a final blessing.

During our ½ mile walk from St. Theresa’s Church to the Palatine Towne Plaza, signs of support came from the blaring horns all along busy Northwest Highway.  Cheers erupted from the marchers, as many motorists responded to the “Honk if you love babies,” or “Let Every Life Shine” signs that we carried.

Joe Scheidler, National Director of the Pro-Life Action League, spoke at the Plaza, telling us that we know every life is precious. We’ve got to save babies every day and we’ve been called to stand up. State Senator Matt Murphy and a representative from State Representative Tom Morrison’s office renewed their pledge to support life affirming legislation.

After the closing prayer we left re-energized to stand up for the gift of life, from conception until God call us home. As if to affirm our determination, the sun popped out from behind the clouds warming our hearts on our march back.
