Every month the Activity Department works hard to plan exciting trip opportunities for our Residents. As Hospitality Interns, we have been invited to take part in some of these excursions. We were blessed to attend the trip to Holy Hill Basilica in Hubertus, Wisconsin. We set off with six Residents and prayed for safe travels and nice weather. The Lord answered our prayers! Although there were quite literally several bumps in the road (due to construction), we made it there safely and the bus was able to climb the steep hill. Residents enjoyed a gorgeous, sunny day adoring the Lord’s beauty in nature and the Basilica. The skies were blue and the air was warm. We couldn’t have had a prettier day.
We ate our packed lunches together, took pictures by a grotto, visited the main Basilica, and then split into groups to take in some of the many different areas of the grounds. The extensive gift shop happened to be a favorite place to stop among the ladies. Some also went to visit a few of the Stations of the Cross and the smaller chapel.
One of the Residents said that his favorite part of the trip was looking around the Basilica. While we were driving home I looked at him and asked how he was doing. He remarked with a laugh “next time I go somewhere I’m gonna fly.” Still, it was a great day and the bus ride allowed time for catching up, reading new books, napping, and competing to estimate our arrival time home. All in all I think we’d all agree it was another wonderful trip planned by the Activity Department.
