“When Irish Eyes are Smiling, Sure, ’tis like the morn in Spring. In the lilt of Irish laughter, You can hear the angels sing. When Irish hearts are happy, All the world seems bright and gay. And when Irish eyes are smiling, Sure, they steal your heart away.”
St. Joseph’s Home is blessed to have many ethic heritages among our Residents, Little Sisters and staff. But, everyone was Irish on March 17th as the angelic voices and laughter of our Residents filled the auditorium and we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day.
St. Patrick showed up to share some Irish tales and lead us in Irish song. The Leprechauns had some help as our Residents had a chance to pick a coin from the pot of gold.
The sweet aroma of Irish mint coffee filled the air, while Sr. Mary Timothy’s world famous scones were passed along with special treats to everyone.
Noel Naughton, (County Mayo), Mary Cohen (County Galway) and Sr. Mary Timothy (County Kerry), shared some time together singing and joyously reminiscing about their dear Irish Homeland. “Now sweetly lies old Ireland Emerald green beyond the foam, Awakening sweet memories, Calling the heart back home.”
When the song, food and drink were gone, we left with the promise of this Irish Blessing ringing through halls:
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
