A Photo Booth, a cupcake walk, bingo, a hula hoop contest and a pie eating contest; these activities and more, filled our afternoon with hours of great entertainment at the St. Joe’s Country Fair. In celebration of St. Jeanne Jugan’ birthday, on Friday, October 24th we took time out of our busy days to pay tribute to a simpler time of a bygone era. The fairground (aka auditorium) was filled with eager participants who came to spend hours of good ole fashion fun. Many of us tried our skill at the various games. Some of us brought our handmade crafts and treasures to be judged. Others chose a restful seat in the bistro; enjoying a hot dog and listening to a musician play his guitar.
The photo booth had us laughing out loud as we watched the costumes transform familiar faces into comical portraits. There were games for everyone, from putt-putt golf and bowling, to the ever popular bingo.
It was a close decision between the pie eating contest and the cup cake walk for the crowd favorite. But judging from the cheers and applause when 2nd floor nurse Sonia won the chocolate cream pie eating competition, there was little doubt which was the favorite.
With our ribs hurting from laughing so much and our stomachs filled with hot dogs and cupcakes, we left the fair determined to try another lazy afternoon tradition of a good ole fashion nap.
