Bing Crosby may have dreamed of a White Christmas, but our main dining room was transformed by Christmas Magic as our Residents were showered with silver and blue snowflakes. Over eighty Residents filled the room as the Little Sisters, staff and volunteers hosted this special dinner.
Each Resident, dressed in holiday attire, was escorted by staff and volunteers into the dining room. After a brief stop for a picture by the glistening silver and blue Christmas tree, they were escorted to their seats. The beautiful melodious sounds of violinist Anthony Kawalkowski put everyone in the spirit as he strolled around the room playing Christmas songs.
Our dear friend, Chef Andy Webber, assisted by his son Alex arrived at noon to begin to prepare a sumptuous feast of roast pork, raised dumplings, glazed carrots and sauerkraut, which was served by the Little Sisters and staff. Chef Charles and his pastry staff at Stonegate Conference Center “put the icing on the cake” by preparing a Black Forest Cake for dessert.
It seemed the evening flew by as the last of the plates were being cleared and the Residents reluctantly got up to leave – but not empty handed! As each Resident left, they received a treat to enjoy later. Their smiles lit up the hallways as they returned to their rooms.
Mother Provincial Maria Christine summed it best “Although we say it is our holiday gift to the Residents, their happiness in turn is a gift that comes back to us. It truly was Christmas magic.”
