Friday, August 21 was National Senior Citizen Day and that means another celebration at St. Joseph’s Home! The Residents enjoyed “Casino Day.” They had many casino games for them to choose. There was blackjack, horse races, roulette wheel, poker, pinochle, bunco, and pokeno. The auditorium was alive with fun and laughter. The Little Sisters came down and joined the Residents. It seemed blackjack, pinochle, and pokeno were a few of their favorites. Throughout the afternoon, four lucky Residents won the $1 raffles. Throughout the afternoon, Residents were able to take their picture in our Blackhawks’ Car, next to our picture and Stanley Cup. The afternoon ended with two games of Bingo, six winners each game! There were lots of smiles on the Residents faces when they were able to trade their winning tickets into quarters!
Senior Citizen Day ended with a few Residents attending the Rolling Meadows Car Show. The show was huge! It took an hour just to walk through without much stopping and chatting to the car owners. A few favorites were the convertible Cadillac, a Lamborghini, 1941 Ford, and the Indy 500 pace car from 1972! The evening weather couldn’t have been more perfect, and everyone who attended truly enjoyed themselves.
