On Wednesday, October 10th, we welcomed Mother General Celine de la Visitation with a celebration of many of the multicultural heritages of the Little Sisters, Residents, staff and friends.
Dressed in native costumes, our staff and volunteers greeted Mother General and prepared an array of desserts from around the world. On behalf of all the Residents, AJJ and staff, Betty Harte and Teresita Endencina welcomed Mother General and Assistant Mother Gerard Patricia, presenting to them a special key to St. Joseph’s Home. Mother General then greeted each Resident and gave them a small gift.
We were happy and blessed that Mother General and Mother Assistant were able to join us for two special Masses during their visit. The first Mass celebrated the third anniversary of the canonization of St. Jeanne Jugan, and the second was the Opening of the Year of Faith.
While Mother General took a few days to visit her family, Mother Assistant Gerard joined Sr. Mary William to beg at the Chicago wholesale markets. Every week, through the generosity of our friends at the market, we are able to fill our coolers with fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and fish. This week was no exception; delighted to greet Mother Assistant, our friends filled our begging van to the brim!
As we say farewell to Mother General and Mother Assistant, we asked through the intercession of St. Jeanne Jugan that many vocations to the Little Sisters will be realized during this year of strengthening our faith.
Bonjour Mother General!
