This year, the Feast of the Most Sacred of Heart of Jesus fell on June 27th , which was also the 102nd birthday of our oldest Resident, Eva Kicanas. It was a day filled with blessings! Eva’s son, Bishop Gerald Kicanas, traveled from his Diocese of Tuscan, AZ to honor his mom and offer Mass for this double celebration.
Along with Bishop Kicanas, Eva’s daugther Kathy Kerwin, daugther and son-in-law Barbara and Bob Yarbrough, her grandchildren and great grand children all came to join the festivities.
After a lunch of pizza and pasta, a Dairy Queen Cake ( Eva’s favorite treat) was presented to her. A rousing chorus of “Happy Birthday to You” could be heard echoing through the halls. The decorated cake was topped with a substantial representation of candles and thanks to her daily exercise, Eva had no trouble blowing them all out!
When asked the secret of her long life, she said, “I guess the Lord isn’t done with me yet!” We think her faith, her wonderful outlook on life, and daily exercise are certainly helping her. Eva starts her day by cycling on the NuStep machine for 40 minutes. Many studies and experts extol the health benefits of daily exercise. But, how many of us can truthfully say that we start each morning with 40 minutes of aerobic exercise? If Eva Kicanas can’t convince us, than nothing canHappy birthday Eva! May God continue to bless you withgood health, happiness and endless Dairy Queen treats!
