Saints and Goblins
On October 31, Halloween – All Hallows Eve, our day was filled with delightful goblins and ended with the beautiful meditation of saints. In the morning, the adorable costumed kindergarten and 5th grade students, along with their teachers from St. Theresa School, ‘treated us’ to a show of songs, dance and skits.
At noon, we were joined by the primary grade students from St. Thomas School. Led by the Great Pumpkin himself- Fr. Tom Rzepiela, the fairies, superheroes, princesses and goblins paraded in our dining room. The children took a moment to wish Gertrude, who will be turning 100 in a few days, a happy birthday.
Later in the evening, remembering the true origin of this day, we gathered in the chapel for an ‘All Saints’ prayer vigil. In front of the communion rail on either side of the altar, were two tables filled with relics, statues and pictures of saints. Along with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and scripture readings, we listened to a reflection on the lives of five Saints, St. Paul VI, St. Oscar Romero, Bl. Anna Kolesarova, Bl. Adele de Batz de Trenquelleon.
The next day on the Feast of All Saints, a multitude of saints visited us from Our Lady Queen of Peace Home Schooling Group. It was inspiring to see these future saints and listen to them speak about the saint they were portraying.
We always enjoy visits from children. The pure love and joy that surround them are contagious. They truly made our Halloween and all Saints Day extra special!
