A Swing and a lot of Prayers…
This year seems to be the year of storms. On Monday, September 9 during lunch at our annual Swing and a Prayer Golf Outing, our golfers were enjoying some delicious food and good company. Some of our Residents had come to the golf course to greet our guests and cheer them on. The forecast was for a clear 75° day.
Much to our dismay, an otherwise sunny picture perfect day was threatening to turn into a disaster. But, ‘neither storms nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night’ is any match for good St. Joseph and Sr. Mary Timothy’s prayers!
As we watched the radar turn from crystal clear to a blob of yellow and orange, we made a desperate call to St. Mary Timothy and the other Little Sisters who stayed home to care for everyone our Home. Statues of St. Joseph were quickly put in the windows facing the oncoming storm. Armed with her rosary and prayer books, St. Mary Timothy sped into the chapel on her scooter. The other Little Sisters fervently prayed while going about their duties. At the course, we prayed as we waved to our golfers heading to their holes.
Miraculously (just like at our Gala) right before we were going to call off play, the storm shifted to the north. Despite some rain the first hour, most everything went along as planned! Our golfers seemed to have a good time as once again our wonderful guests had nothing but praise for the day.
We are very grateful for the patience and support of our guests, the sponsors who underwrote the cost of our event and the hard work of our Golf Committee: David Brochu, Gage McCotter, Doug Olson, Tony Stallone, Chip Stempeck and Justin Yap.
Our heartfelt thanks to the staff and board of the Club at Wynstone, who not only were well prepared with back-up plans, but also jumped through hoops to make the day run smoothly.
