With visions of a welcoming tapestry of beautiful colors, we set out to plant our masterpiece. Carefully arranging the delicate flowers, we began our gardening project on the raised flower beds that frame the entryway from our front parking lot to our main entrance.
The raised beds were built by boy scouts for us, to make it easier for our elderly Resident gardeners to enjoy their hobby. The height was specially designed so that our wheelchair bound Residents could participate.
The Residents hardly needed help as many of them are skilled at gardening. Teresa talked about how she used to grow a variety of flowers and vegetables in her garden back in Florida. She was kind enough to show our interns the proper way to plant. Teresa respectfully held her laugh to a chuckle, as the interns (novice gardeners), accidentally flung dirt into the air and onto themselves.
Ellen was also an avid gardener before she arrived. She eagerly picked up the hand shovel and planted flowers in record time. Given our gardener’s skills, the beds were filled in no time at all! With the hard work completed, we finished the day with a much deserved bowl of ice cream.
With the help of the summer sunshine and rain, we hope that our tapestry will be a welcoming beacon to our guests.
