On Monday, August 7th, Sr. Rose Veronica and volunteer gardener extraordinaire, Julie Towers, accepted on behalf of St. Joseph’s Home, the 1st Place Hometown Pride Award (Business Category). This award was created to honor properties in Palatine that have beautiful landscaping and exceptional curb appeal. We do admit being proud that we have been a recipient of this award since 2013. Mayor Jim Schwantz presented the award to Sr. Rose and Julie during the Village Council Meeting.
As mentioned in a previous blog, Julie, along with Debbie Rorhwasser and many volunteers from PATH (Palatine Assisting Through Hope), have spent a lot of time beautifying our landscape. Their efforts have been well-rewarded, not only by the Village of Palatine, but by the smiling and peaceful faces of our Residents, Little Sisters and friends as they enjoy our grounds.
St. Jeanne Jugan loved nature and found the presence of God all around her. She would often pray the rosary as she wandered through the meadows of France. With many thanks to our friends, we admire the fruits and beauty of their hard work. Like Jeanne, in the midst of our flower gardens and tranquil retreats, we prayerfully thank God for the beauty of His creation and for our friends who sculpted the stunning gardens. The words of St. Jeanne Jugan echo through our minds, “We must always say blessed be God, glory be to God, thank-you my God!”
